Types of EA Framework

Enterprise Architecture Frameworks fall into two broad categories, as follows:

• Structure-centric frameworks: frameworks which are based on providing an understanding of how to structure EA knowledge at a high level. These focus heavily on describing and understanding the questions which EA must address (c.f. the Zachman Framework), but often with little consideration for how the knowledge is managed in practice.

• Process-centric frameworks: frameworks whaich have been developed to provide structure to the processes required to deploy and manage Enterprise Architecture. The apporach to knowledge structure and behaviour is generally less rigorous, which often leads to possible points of failure and the need for users to introduce entensions and work-arounds

Our method, Enterprise DNA, extends these approaches into a knowledge-centric framework, where the nature and behaviour of all types of knowledge relevant to successful EA are treated as the core of our activities.
